A Long History
Dried fruits, where it all began
In 1976, Peter Magiros took some time off from the family’s busy cake shop in Sydney and went to Greece for a holiday. Whilst there he came across fields of black fruit drying in the sun. Impressed with the quality of the crop, he purchased a few boxes and had them shipped back to Sydney.
Upon returning he took a chance and took a sample of the Greek currants to Arnotts, makers of the wildly popular Venetian biscuits that featured currants as one of its key ingredients.
The timing turned out to be fortuitous. A flood in the growing regions in Australia had wiped out the local crop. Arnotts ended up placing an order for 800 boxes of Peter’s currants every two weeks.
Frutex was born.
Suppling egg products, along with dried fruits and nuts to the baking industry became the growth platform for Frutex for the next 50 years. Today Frutex plays an integral role in the food manufacturing industry, supplying over 3,000 ingredients to major industrial customers and all our mid-sized and family bakeries. Frutex prefers to be in the background as the brand behind the brands.
Global Sourcing
Wherever in the world
Frutex has a long history of sourcing the best products globally. From the Greek currants that started the company off, to the myriad of herbs and spices sourced from 62 countries around the globe. We are constantly monitoring global agricultural trends to ensure we stay ahead of the game.
On average Frutex imports around 300 containers a month from every corner of the globe that are then warehoused and processed on-site at our extensive facilities located in Kingsgrove in Sydney.
Our overseas buyers and partners have been vetted for their integrity and local knowledge with many relationships stretching back decades.
It is this network that gives Frutex the edge in a competitive marketplace and why we have won the trust of customers to deliver on quality, consistency and price.
